Our Mission
At Oruguitas Preschool, our mission is to foster a love of learning and growth in children through a holistic approach to development. We believe in nurturing the cognitive, physical, and social-emotional aspects of each child, while embracing and valuing the cultural diversity of the Bay Area. Biliteracy is very important to the development of children. Our Spanish Immersion setting provides an inclusive and immersive learning environment, where children can thrive and reach their full potential. Children will be able to learn basic Spanish which includes but are not limited to the alphabet, colors, vocabulary, animals, numbers, geometric shapes, science, math, and many more! We understand that no two children have the same style of learning or skills however we believe that all children have the power to learn, are creative, and can succeed with appropriate assistance and help.
Philosophy & Curriculum
Philosophy:
Our curriculum is based on the belief that play is a child's natural way of learning and developing with an emphasis on biliteracy and dual language learning. We take a holistic approach that includes the cognitive, physical, linguistics, and social-emotional areas of development. Our goal is to create a fun, engaging and stimulating environment where children can explore, discover and grow while also learning basic Spanish.
We value diversity, respect, guidance, support, community, and above all education for all. Whether it is education that is geared towards early childhood development or education about the history of this country, everyone has a right to an education and one that is truthful and beneficial. At Oruguitas Preschool, we also value play and exploration for young children. A young child cannot understand complex histories however, they can learn to address their immediate problems through dramatic play. Dramatic and fantasy play are vital to the developmental stages that children need in order to become successful. We value the development of mindfulness and communication and hope to be able to build and establish effective and mutual relationships with all children, families, and parents in order to help children in their growth through all developmental domains.
Curriculum:
I. Cognitive/Linguistics Development:
- Language and Literacy: Children will have opportunities to engage in activities that promote language development such as storytelling, rhyming, and vocabulary building games. They will also be introduced to letters, numbers and shapes through play.
- Math and Science: Children will have hands-on experiences with basic math and science concepts through play-based activities such as counting, sorting, and measuring.
- Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Children will be encouraged to think creatively and find solutions to problems through activities like block building and role-playing games.
II. Physical Development:
- Gross and Fine Motor Skills: Children will participate in physical activities that develop gross and fine motor skills such as running, jumping, climbing, and drawing.
- Health and Fitness: Children will learn about healthy habits and exercise through activities like yoga, dance, and outdoor play.
III. Social-Emotional Development:
- Empathy and Social Skills: Children will engage in activities that promote empathy and social skills such as cooperative play, group games, and role-playing.
- Self-Esteem and Confidence: Children will have opportunities to build their self-esteem and confidence through activities that allow them to express themselves and take risks.
IV. Cultural Diversity:
- Spanish Immersion: Children will be fully immersed in the Spanish language and culture through activities such as songs, stories, and games.
- Respect for Diversity: Children will learn to respect and appreciate the diversity of others through activities that promote understanding and inclusion.
Conclusion:
Our Spanish immersion play-based curriculum is designed to support the whole child and help them develop the skills they need to succeed in school and in life. Through hands-on experiences and engaging activities, children will be inspired to learn, grow and have fun!
